The call is now closed.

The pre-selected projects are currently under review

Projects may deal with any topic related to biodiversity, from the perspective of natural sciences and/or human and social sciences (economics, sociology, anthropology, law, etc.). A non-exhaustive list of topics includes: the state and dynamics of biodiversity, the facets of biodiversity, biodiversity conservation, the relationship between biodiversity, ecosystems and services, the relationship between biodiversity and anthropogenic pressures, the roles of evolutionary processes in biodiversity dynamics, socio-ecosystems and access to biological resources, human and social science issues related to the governance of uses and conservation of biodiversity, etc.

For each selected project, the coordinator will be a recognized scientist, affiliated with a French research organization, and the working group will consist of a maximum of 14 experts. The financial support will include, among others, the recruitment of a post-doc working on the project during 24 months, meetings costs, dissemination costs, as well as logistical, technical and administrative support.

Projects will be selected according to the following criteria: (i) the scientific excellence and innovative character of the project, (ii) the relevance to the theme of the call and to the objectives of CESAB, (iii) the quality of the working group established (i.e. the relevance of the skills brought together and the level of expertise in relation to the topic addressed), (iv) the feasibility of the work programme, and (v) the dissemination of knowledge and data.

The CESAB (CEntre for Synthesis and Analysis of Biodiversity) was created in 2010 by the FRB to promote high-level research activities dedicated to the synthesis of ideas and data analysis in the field of biodiversity. Located in Montpellier, CESAB provides a place and time for experts of all nationalities, to collaborate and capitalize on existing data to answer a major scientific question. CESAB supports groups of international experts who synthesize ideas, concepts and data to significantly advance the knowledge front on key questions posed at all spatial or temporal scales in the general thematic field of biodiversity. Members of the CESAB groups share their expertise and pool available data to answer these questions

The FRB was created in 2008 and brings together public research organisations, environmental protection associations, space and biological resource managers and companies. The mission of the Foundation for Biodiversity Research is to support and act with research to increase and transfer knowledge on biodiversity. It is a focal point between science and society for the challenges facing biodiversity research today.
